Looking to book some last minute holidays in the UK but can’t decide where to go? Does the thought of a weekend of cinemas, pub lunches and long strolls seem dull and uninspiring? Well, why not try something a little different this time, like an adventure activity holiday of hiking, biking, diving, or even swinging through treetops…whatever floats your boat!
There is a huge range of extreme sports and activities offered at centres all over the UK. So, what are you waiting for? Decide which adrenaline-filled activities appeal to you and start organizing a holiday with a difference!
There’s nothing quite as extreme as jumping out of a plane and, with more than 20 parachute centres across the United Kingdom, there’s bound to be one near you wherever you decide to take your break. Beginners can try a tandem jump with a trained instructor, while the more experienced, or braver, among you can try a solo jump.
If you want to try something a little more unexpected, why not take a trip to the British countryside and try zorbing; tumbling downhill in an orb or sphere? This activity can be performed in groups or on your own. As well as the usual harness zorbing, there is now also an option to try hydro-zorbing, a variation on the norm, without harnesses and complete with about 20 litres of hot or cold water, for a waterslide effect.
How about canyoning in Wales, a form of abseiling in canyons and gorges using ropes and wires? Or whitewater rafting down the tricky rocky course of the Tryweryn river, near Bala Lake. Or you could fly a hovercraft in Bristol – whizzing round corners above the ground in a race against your mates.
If you really want to get your feet off the ground, there’s always the dozens of GoApe centres scattered across the country. These forest adventure parks use zip lines, high wires, treetop ladders and tunnels to create a truly unique treetop adventure.
If the countryside just isn’t for you and you want extreme activities in city surroundings, head to London, which has a lot more adventure activities than Paris. There is a surprising amount of adventure sports facilities in the capital, as well as all the usual benefits of a big city break. Weekend breaks in London don’t have to cost the earth. There is a wide range of cheap hotels in London, to find great deals on hotels visit expedia.co.uk as well as some of the most exciting activities you could ever imagine.
Why not try diving lessons in one of the city’s indoor diving clubs, or bungee jumping near Tower Bridge? Hit the Westway Sports Centre for some rock climbing or take a short train ride to Cobham for some serious paintball action. You could even try your hand at a Segway rally race with your friends.
These are just a handful of the many weird and wonderful adventure activities available in the UK. No matter what your interests, whether airborne, water-based, or both feet firmly on the ground, there’s an activity out there for you. So, this year, ditch the popcorn and the pub and hit the adventure trail for an action-packed trip you won’t soon forget!
