Can You Hike In Skechers? (2023)

If you’re like me, you probably love going on hikes but hate having to wear heavy, uncomfortable shoes. Well, what if I told you that you could hike in Skechers? Believe it or not, you can! Full disclosure, I bought a pair of Skechers last year on a whim and now own three different pairs and have hiked in all of them.

So I wanted to break down what makes Skechers great for hiking, what to look for in a good pair, and which ones I recommend.

What Makes Skechers Good For Hiking?

Let me give you a bit of a backstory first. I was first drawn to these Skechers when I was at Target. I had no intention of buying new shoes, but when I saw these, I was intrigued by the banner that mentioned the “memory-foam” insole. As a sufferer of sciatica, anything that claims to be super comfortable for my feet will always pique my interest.

So, I tried them on, and they were actually really comfortable! And then I noticed the bottom had some nice treading as well.

So, what makes Skechers good for hiking? It turns out that the memory foam insole is fantastic for hiking because it provides incredible comfort, support, and cloud-like cushioning without being too heavy or bulky.

Now — I’m not saying that Skechers are the best hiking shoes out there (they’re not), but if you’re looking for a comfortable, VERY affordable, and lightweight shoe to hike in, they are a fantastic option.

What to Look for in a Good Pair of Skechers for Hiking

Now that you know Skechers can be good for hiking, let’s talk about what to look for in a good pair. First and foremost, you want to make sure they have good treading on the bottom. This will help you keep your footing, especially on slippery or rocky terrain.

Second, you want to look for a shoe with good ankle support. This is important for two reasons: 1) it will help prevent you from rolling your ankle while hiking, and 2) it will provide support for your Achilles tendon (which can be a problem area for some people). I actually tore my Achilles tendon a few years ago due to problematic shoes – not a fun thing to deal with.

Finally, you want to make sure the shoe is comfortable. I would opt for a shoe with its “memory foam” insole. But, ultimately, you want to ensure the shoe feels good on your foot and doesn’t rub or cause discomfort.

Disadvantages to Hiking in Skechers

There are a couple of disadvantages to hiking in Skechers that are worth mentioning. First, they’re not the most durable shoe. I’ve found that they start to show wear and tear pretty quickly (especially if you hike on a lot of rocky terrains).

Second, they’re not the best shoe for long hikes. I would not recommend wearing them for hikes that are 10+ miles.

Thirdly, the ultra-comfortable memory foam has started to wear down and become less comfortable on my original pair — although, to be fair, I’ve had them for over a year and hiked in them more than a dozen times.

And finally, they’re not the best choice if you’re looking for a waterproof shoe. If you’re hiking in wet conditions, I would recommend opting for a different shoe. Skechers are generally not going to come water-proof.

However, with the low price point compared to trail runners or hiking shoes, I think these shoes are worth considering, especially if you’re just starting out or looking for a comfortable, lightweight shoe to hike in.

Which Skechers Should You Buy For Hiking?

So, now that you know what to look for in a good pair of Skechers for hiking, which ones should you buy? I’ve put together a list of my three favorite pairs below, all of which are under $100.

Skechers Men’s Go Walk Max-54601 Sneaker

The Skechers Men’s Go Walk Max-54601 Sneaker is a great option for lightweight and comfortable hiking shoes. The sneaker features a memory foam insole that provides cushioning and support and a treaded bottom that helps with traction. Additionally, the shoe has a good amount of ankle support, making it a good option for those prone to ankle rolling.

The only disadvantages of the shoe are that it is not as durable as some other hiking shoes on the market and is not waterproof. However, at $60, the Skechers Men’s Go Walk Max-54601 Sneaker is a great value for those looking for a comfortable and supportive hiking shoe.

Skechers Sport Men’s Elite Flex Hartnell Fashion Sneaker

The Skechers Sport Men’s Elite Flex Hartnell Fashion Sneaker is another great option for comfortable and supportive hiking shoes. The sneaker features a memory foam insole and a flexible sole that helps with traction. Additionally, the shoe has good ankle support and is lightweight, making it a good choice for hikes of any length. And don’t let the “Fashion” in the name fool you – these sneakers just look great as well.

The only downside of the shoe is that it is not waterproof, but at under $60, the Skechers Sport Men’s Elite Flex Hartnell Fashion Sneaker is a great value for those looking for a comfortable and stylish hiking shoe.

Skechers Men’s Go Walk Max-athletic Air Mesh Slip-on Walking Shoe

Admittedly, these are a bit different. As a slip-on, these shoes don’t provide the same level of support as a traditional lace-up hiking shoe. However, they are still a great option for those looking for a comfortable and lightweight hiking shoe. The Skechers Men’s Go Walk Max-athletic Air Mesh Slip-on Walking Shoe features a memory foam insole and a flexible sole that helps with traction.

Additionally, the slip-on design makes the shoe easy to take on and off, and the mesh upper helps to keep your feet cool. The only downside of the shoe is that it is not as supportive as a traditional lace-up hiking shoe, but at under $50, the Skechers Men’s Go Walk Max-athletic Air Mesh Slip-on Walking Shoe is a tremendous value for those looking for a comfortable and lightweight hiking shoe.

Conclusion

So, there you have it! While the name Skechers isn’t necessarily synonymous with hiking, their memory foam technology has surely impressed me enough to recommend them as a good option for those looking for a comfortable and supportive light hiking shoe. And, with prices ranging from $30-$60, they’re also a great value. So, if you’re in the market for a new pair of hiking shoes to hit some light trails, I would encourage you to try Skechers!
